<p>After boarding our Superjeeps in Reykjavik, we cross fertile South Iceland<br />farmlands, opening up to grand views of Hekla volcano&#39;s snow-covered top<br />(elev. 1491m). Hekla&#39;s next eruption is long overdue and expected at any time<br />so you just might catch the show. Since Iceland&#39;s human settlement in the<br />ninth century, Hekla&#39;s 20-30 eruptions have ranged from pretty little tourist<br />attractions to explosive disasters. There&#39;s no wonder Hekla has long been taken<br />for the entrance to Hell for damned souls. Conditions permitting, we may make<br />it up onto the volcano’s eruptive ridge, ca 900m above sea level, where the air<br />is crisp and the views incomparable. Pushing deeper into Iceland&#39;s eruptive<br />interior, we take in and touch scenery so unreal it is repeatedly used for other-<br />world Hollywood A-films. When we arrive in Landmannalaugar we can hike, or<br />dip in Iceland&#39;s most famous natural hot pool, or both. When you havet been<br />suitably geothermally cooked, it’s time to head north through “does-this-really-<br />exist” looking surroundings with stop at Gjáin (Games of thrones site) before<br />driving towards Reykjavík.<br />    </p>

<p style="font-size:14px;line-height:1.6;color:#57646f;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular day trip, for good reason.<br />You see the one and only original Geysir and having Gullfoss waterfall in front of you is worth a day trip on its own. Þingvellir is a National Park, nature reserve,<br />Unesco World Heritage site, and split by the Mid-Atlantic Rift. By using our super jeeps, we can also add the extraordinary Langjökull glacier to your list of impressions. We start the day in Þingvellir, where the Parliament of Iceland was founded in<br />930 AD. There, you get a view from “the edge of America” over the Mid-Atlantic continental divide. Continuing, we pass the geothermal heated Laugarvatn lake before arrivingat the Great Geysir hot spring area, peppered with small and large boiling water springs. The most spectacular one, Strokkur, blasts boiling water up<br />to 30m skywards, every 5 to 7 minutes. After some quality time at Geysir, a short drive takes us to Iceland’s most visited waterfall, Gullfoss, where glacier meltwater thunders in two stages into a 70m deep basalt canyon. We then maneuver a gravel track snaking up mountains towards Europe’s second largest glacier, Langjökull. There, a snowmobile ride is optional if pre-booked. (dependent on weather, conditions, and time of year) In the afternoon, we descend again and traverse the South Iceland agricultural heartland on our way home to Reykjavik.</p>

<p>We start the day by heading north, through the main town of western Iceland,<br />Borgarnes. We continue our journey west onto the beautiful, multi coloured<br />terrain of the Snæfellsnes peninsula and Kirkjufell mountain. The western tip of<br />the peninsula is the newly designated national park, including the Snæfellsjökull<br />glacier and stunning coastal beaches and cliffs. We will visit a view point in the<br />foothills of the glacier, made famous in the novel Journey to the Center of the<br />Earth penned by French novelist, Jules Verne. Búðir, meaning “shops,” was the<br />old trading post of the area many years ago. What remains today are almost<br />invisible ruins of this formerly vibrant trading post. We’ll stop for coffee at the<br />Búðir Hotel, one of the most popular country hotels in Iceland. We’ll go down<br />to the tiny village at Arnarstapi to see the beautiful sea cliffs and views in this<br />area. There is a scenic 2.5 kilometre walk from Arnastapi to Hellnar, which you<br />are also free to enjoy. We’ll be visiting the small settlement of Hellnar, a town<br />practically sitting below the glacier at the ocean’s edge. Seabirds and cliffs<br />dominate the area. During summer, lunch stop at the Fjöruhúsið Café located<br />in a great warm spot near the beach. From here you’ll enjoy amazing views<br />and hear some intense birdsong! Then we’ll enjoy some time on the beach at<br />Djúpalónssandur. Our last stop is Ólafsvík, a weather-exposed fishing village.<br />Your busy day comes to a close back at your starting point!<br />    </p>

It&#39;s where the Icelanders traditionally go themselves to get</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">away from it all. Guarding Þórsmörk nature reserve from unwanted traffic are several</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">streams and glacial rivers cutting the rough track. Crossing requires caution. And</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">specially modified vehicles of course. First highlight of the day is the powerfully</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a good 60 meters of constant rush. Conditions</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">permitting, how about a walk around it – yes, you can go behind Seljalandsfoss.</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">Soon after the road starts disintegrating and nature takes over your senses.</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">Bordering Þórsmörk nature reserve to the south is the famously ash-spewing volcano</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">Eyjafjallajökull, topped by glacial ice and snow. Amongst numerous places of interest</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">on our route is the Gígjökull glacier lagoon which is actually off the maps now. In</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">2010 it disappeared under volcanic rubble in a catastrophic flood of glacial melt and</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">debris, caused by the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. Where we go in the Þórsmörk Nature</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">Reserve depends from day to day on weather and other conditions, but canyons,</h5><h5 style="font-size:20px;line-height:1.6;color:#34404e;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">woodlands and caves are ideal settings for short walks.</h5>

A morning drive from Reykjavik in our Mountain Taxi Super jeep brings us to Kaldidalur or &#34;Cold Valley&#34;. On our right lies the western side of the massive, nearly 1.000 square kilometer large Langjökull glacier, resting on a torn and twisted volcanic base. Depending on time of year, weather and conditions, your expert driver may use his super jeep&#39;s extreme abilities to climb the glacial slopes of Langjökull. An opportunity for cold, personal contact with nature&#39;s icy element. We drive from the glacier, through Húsafell to Hraunfossar waterfalls, dropping straight out of lava cliff faces into the glacial river Hvítá. From nature to culture, we visit the historic site of Reykholt, home of Iceland’s legendary chieftain and writer Snorri Sturluson. Here, he wrote some of the greatest Sagas of the Icelanders, brilliant literature also preserving the culture and history of the Viking Age to our day. See Iceland&#39;s oldest man-made structure, Snorri Sturlusons 13th century hot tub. Nearby is Deildartunguhver, the most productive hot spring in the Northern Hemisphere and a source of much of western Iceland’s heating needs. Our day wraps up in Reykjavik, taking in the scenic and historic Hvalfjörður fjord on the way.</p>

<p style="font-size:14px;line-height:1.6;color:#57646f;margin-top:0.5em;margin-bottom:0.5em">First up is Þingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient parliament.<br />We’ll spend about 20 minutes walking through the park to experience the dramatic mid-Atlantic ridge where the 9000-year old lava field splits apart . Approaching the home of the great Strokkur geyser in the geothermal area of Haukadalur, you’ll<br />likely be able to see an eruption every 5 to 7 minutes. Spouting boiling hot water into the air at heights of approximately 25 to 30 meters, we’ll stop here to enjoy one of nature’s greatest shows while exploring the colourful hot springs. Next, we’ll be enroute to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall: a two-tiered drop into the white Hvita river with its powerful glacial run-off waters. Then we’re northbound at the beginning of the Kjölur interior mountain road, famous for being the second longest route through the Highlands of Iceland. This road has been around since the early Icelandic settlements and is even mentioned in Icelandic sagas. We’ve come to see the second largest glacier in the country, Langjökull. In the summer, we’ll drive onto the glacier; in the winter, snowmobile activities take place either on or next to the glacier, depending on conditions. The snowmobile option allows for an extra hour to explore (or longer, if requested). Next stop is dinner in the country side before heading back to Reykjavík and hunt for northern lights in the winter or enjoy the midnight sun<br />in summer.     </p>

<p>This Private Day-Tour allows you to spend a magnificent day devoted to<br />the wonders of Iceland&#39;s south shore. You will see some of Iceland&#39;s most<br />magnificent scenery on the way, including the mighty Skógarfoss with its 60m<br />drop, black sand desert, and you have the opportunity of sailing in between<br />icebergs in the summer time (not available in wintertime). Truly a breathtaking<br />experience On this tour you will see some of Iceland&#39;s biggest glacier rivers,<br />black sands, and just before we reach the lagoon we will pass Iceland&#39;s second<br />largest active volcano in the country, Öræfajökull glacier. Jökulsárlón literally<br />means glacier lagoon, at the time when first settlers arrived in Iceland, the edge<br />of Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of the great glacier Vatnajökull, is<br />thought to have been 20km further north than it is now. The climate began to<br />cool in about the year 1200, the cold spell reaching a peak in the period 1600-<br />1900, which is sometimes known as the &#34;Little Ice Age&#34;. As a result the glacier<br />advanced until about 1890, reaching a point only about 1km from the coast at<br />Jökulsá river. Large blocks of ice break off the edge of the glacier, which is<br />about 30m high, keeping the lagoon stocked with icebergs<br />    </p>
