Snæfellsnes
Arnarstapi
A small fishing village on the south coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, best known for the coastal walk to neighbouring Hellnar — a 2.5 km path (one way) along sea cliffs with arches, blowholes, and nesting seabirds. It's one of the best short hikes on the peninsula and takes about 45 minutes each way.
The large stone sculpture at the harbour is Bárður Snæfellsás, a half-man, half-troll figure from Icelandic saga who is said to have disappeared into the glacier. Gatklettur, a natural stone arch near the harbour, is the other main photo stop. In summer, Arctic terns nest aggressively around the paths — they will dive-bomb you, so keep moving.
Arnarstapi is about 190 km from Reykjavík (2.5 hours). There's a small café and a few accommodation options. Most people stop for 1-2 hours to do the Hellnar walk and explore the harbour. It's a standard stop on any Snæfellsnes day trip.
