Kerið

Tucked into Iceland's famous Golden Circle route, Kerið is one of the most visually striking volcanic craters you'll ever lay eyes on. This 3,000-year-old caldera boasts vivid red and ochre volcanic rock walls that plunge dramatically down to a stunning turquoise-green lake — a natural colour contrast so bold it almost looks photoshopped. Unlike many volcanic craters, Kerið formed not from an explosion but from a volcanic cone that collapsed inward, making it a rare and fascinating geological gem.

Visitors can walk the entire rim of the crater in about 15–20 minutes for breathtaking panoramic views, then descend a well-maintained path right down to the water's edge. The reflections on that eerie green lake are absolutely magical — bring your camera! Kerið has even hosted outdoor concerts right on the lake, so the acoustics are as impressive as the scenery.
